Can you please pass the word to the FFA folks that the rules and order forms for turkeys for the 2013 major livestock shows are posted on our website at:

Orders are due July 15, 2012. The bird pick-up date cannot be determined at this time, but will likely be sometime in late October or first part of November, 2012. We will inform everyone later when the date is determined.

State Brangus Show

We are advisors for the Texas Jr. Brangus Breeder's Association (TJBBA) and we love promoting our breed by inviting all Brangus kids to participate in the state show at Brenham. Its the best way we know of to get the opportunity to meet great families, participate in speaking, photography, quiz bowl, team fitting and showmanship in addition to the regular "owned" and "bred and owned" brangus shows. Its 3 days packed with activities and fun!!! Its also the best way we know for kids from all over the state to meet, mingle and develop lifelong friendships with fellow Brangus owners. All kids owning a registered brangus heifer or bred and owned bull that meets the ownership deadline may enter one or all of the activities at the State Show. Shoot Begins: 9:00

4 rounds of 25 trap for a total of 100 shots (All ties will be shot at 22 yard line)
Shotguns may not be larger than 12 gauge
Students provide own ammo, safety glasses and ear protection
Buckles for 1^st place team and high over-all individual
Awards for 2^nd and 3^rd place teams and 2^nd and 3^rd high individuals
Entry Fee is $100 per 4 member team or $25 for Individuals

Agricultural Science Graduate Courses

Summer 2012
The following graduate courses will be offered by the Department of Agricultural Sciences during the Summer 2012 sessions. The courses will be taught from a multi-disciplinary, thematic perspective which does not require previous coursework in Agricultural Sciences.

Summer I

AG 597 Special Topics: Gardening Across the Curriculum (Web-Based, 1st sub Term)
A review of research related to school and university-based gardening programs for academic enrichment, nature awareness, nutrition improvement, and other aspects of garden-based learning. This course will compare techniques used in designing, implementing, funding,
evaluating, and sustaining selected programs.
(Begins on June 4 and ends on June 19.)

AG 597 Special Topics: Food in Social and Technical Context (Web-Based, 2nd Sub Term)
This course will examine the cultural, social, and economic factors affecting food production, processing, distribution, and consumption. A comparison of global, regional, and local food systems will be included as well as issues related to food security and food sovereignty.
Qualitative research methods will be introduced.
(Begins on June 20 and ends on July 5.)

Summer II

AG 597 Special Topics: Developing Grant Proposals (Web-Based)
This special topics course provides strategies for developing grant proposals relevant to professionals involved in education, extension, outreach, and community development. While the primary grant sources and examples will focus on agriculture, food, and family sciences, course activities will be applicable to other types of projects and fund sources.
(Begins July 9 and ends August 9)

The following course is designed for students interested in secondary or postsecondary teaching in the Agriculture/Food/Natural Resources, Architecture and Construction, STEM (Engineering), or Manufacturing Career Clusters.

AMC 597 Special Topics: Advanced Facilities and Project Management
This course will focus on facilities design, layout, and equipment used to teach laboratory-based courses that utilize industry-recommended tools, equipment, and technology. Students will be introduced to current facility standards as well as unique examples of project-based learning through professional/research articles, guest speakers, and field trips to recently constructed facilities.
(Course meets from 8:00 a.m.-4:50 p.m. on July 19, 20, 26, 27 and August 9, 10.)
